An Omron Heart Scan Shows Levels of Calcified Plaque in Arteries

October 30, 2013

There seem to be new tests available all the time which are created to help us monitor our health. One of these is the Omron heart scan. Omron is one of the most reliable names in the medical field and the Omron ECG monitor is widely used.  A heart scan is a non-invasive procedure that shows the amount of calcified plaque you have in your coronary arteries. Currently, two types of heart scanners are being used and while both types of scanners are excellent, the one you choose depends on what your doctor recommends and what type of equipment is available at your medical centre. Not to mention that it may also depend on how much money you are willing to spend!

The first is the multi-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, which creates an extremely detailed cross-sectional image of your arteries using x-ray cameras. The second is the electron-beam tomography (EBT) scanner, which creates images of the heart using an electron gun. From a patient's perspective, getting an Omron heart scan is quite easy. You lie down fully clothed on an examination table, the scanner passes over you for a minute or two, and then it's over. If a contrast dye is used, you may have to fast beforehand and the examination can take a little longer.

Once the scanned image of your heart has been analysed, it's converted into a number ranging from 0 to several thousand. This number is called your Calcium Score. The higher your score compared to others of your age and sex, the more calcified plaque you have in your arteries and the greater your risk for a future heart attack. This early warning system may help you to take more care with your lifestyle and diet in order to avoid problems later on.

Another area where Omron is a trusted name is in the field of asthma. Omron nebulisers are used in thousands of homes for the administration of medication. An Omron nebulizer can deliver the right amount of carefully controlled medicine to an adult or a child. Inhalers are also used but many parents find that a nebuliser may be the better alternative for a child. Some kids who need asthma medicine start out using a nebulizer. Others are given an inhaler with a spacer and face mask. Some older kids use only an inhaler, with no spacer attached. So which is the best way to deliver asthma medicine to the lungs?

Studies show that the device used really doesn't matter, as long as it's used properly. All methods work just as well when the correct technique is used. Of course, there are pros and cons to each type of device. Inhalers are smaller and require no power source, and because they deliver the medicine much more quickly than a nebulizer, they may be preferred by some parents. It is for this reason that many parents decide to invest in an Omron nebulizer rather than struggle with an inhaler, especially for younger children.

October 30, 2013

Children are a blessing as you will probably have heard many times. This is so true and you only need to speak to expectant parents to be able to see how excited they are about the arrival of their baby. This excitement increases when they can finally hear the babysounds of the child in the womb and the baby heart beat with the use of a baby heartbeat monitor.

A baby heart monitor can pick up the baby sounds and the baby heart rate because the heart rate of the baby is faster than the hear...

A Nebuliser Machine Can Look Scary To a Child

September 29, 2013

I remember the first time that my child was placed on a nebulizer machine. It was the first time that I had even seen a nebulizer and even though I was reassuring my child that there was nothing to be afraid of; I understood how scary nebulizers must look to a child.

A nebuliser machine is a medical instrument which is used to administer a dose of medicine to the lungs in the form of a fine mist. Nebulisers are used in the main for patients suffering from asthma but some doctors use a nebulise...

A Tympanic Thermometer is Easy to Read and is Accurate

August 31, 2013

I am one of those people who often go through the winter without a sniffle or a cough but then have a raging temperature and flu in the summer. I have learnt to be prepared and this is even more important when there is a child involved. This is why I always have a baby ear thermometer and a clinical thermometer in the house. A clinical thermometer is used for measuring human body temperature. The tip of the thermometer is inserted into the mouth under the tongue, under the armpit, or in...

Certain Diabetes Products Can Help You to Cope With the Disease

August 31, 2013

I was recently advised to go for diabetes testing since I had been having a few problems with my health which were a cause for concern. The diabetes blood test is a simple one and is advisable in order to either rule out the disease or to catch it early so that regular diabetes monitoring can be done.

I was lucky enough to be told that I do not have diabetes at the moment but that since I was in the high risk bracket, i.e. being overweight and having a family history of diabetes, I should h...
